Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome or more commonly known as AIDS is a viral disease that comes from the infection HIV. AIDS deeply affects the immune system of a person making one impossible to fight diseases and illnesses. If one is infected with AIDS, there is a defficiency in his or her immunity. If one’s immune system is weakened, the body is more susceptible to diseases. This is why HIV and AIDS victims are often inflicted with other serious illnesses and oftentimes, is the cause of the death of the patient. HIV and AIDS can result to serious health problems such pneumonia, different types of cancers, brain damage, nervos system damage and other reproductive health problems.

AIDS has been around for many decades now. And until today, there is no specific technique formulated to stop or just even control the widespread of the disease. HIV or AIDS is transmitted through sexual contact with an infected person. Sharing or swapping of bodily fluids can pass the disease to other people. So, those who do not use protection during their sexual activites and those share drug needles are the ones at high risk for infection.

Sometimes, HIV and AIDS may not show symptoms until it is already severe. Some common symptoms are fatigue, headaches, nausea, diarrhea and dizziness. As its stages progress, a positively infected person may have vaginal yeast infections, whitish coating of the toungue and mouth, rapid loss of weight, diarrhea, bruising and purplish growths on the skin.

Whether it is AIDS, HIV or any other sexually transmitted diseases, it is important to be able to detect the disease right away to apply proper treatment to the patient. The patient should first seek for an HIV or STD testing. This is to know if he or she is positively infected or not. This is used to know what type of disease has infected him or her. In other words, HIV testing is to confirm one’s medical condition.

Local STD and HIV testing may be taken in local hospitals or health clinics in your area. This type of testing is now made more available to help those who are in trouble with their health particularly with STDs. Being infected with STDs is such a sensitive matter to deal with. And many patients refuse to tell other people about it. This is natural. Of course, one may feel depressed, afraid and hopeless if confirmed that he or she is infected with a dangerous disease like STD. However, it is the person’s responsibility to face it and make necessary actions.

Once a person is diagnosed with HIV or AIDS, treatment should immediately follow. And since this is an incurable disease, antiviral medications may just be given to thepatient. These medications can help control the spread of the virus to the other body organs of the patient. It may also preempt the health complications that are possible to happen. These medications can help the patient live normally and longer.

It is important that the patient should be responsive to what is happening to him or her. Even without symptoms, as long as one is at high for infection, he or she should make the move and get tested.
