Autism or otherwise called as autistic disorder is characterized by a child’s difficulty in social interaction because of otherwise disruptive or abnormal behavior, a problem with expressing oneself through speech and an obsessive need to present his or her interest repetitively. Diagnosing autism is quite difficult as the symptoms often overlap with other behavior disorders in children. Sad to say, however, if a child has autism, the prevention or cure is unattainable. A lot of medical practitioners, psychiatrists and clinicians present different factors in diagnosing autism. Many would signify a great manifestation of aloofness and a delayed speech development as a form of autism. Since they do not interact well with their surroundings, they lack the peer relationship that usually happens at this stage with kids. Moreover, children with autism are described as not exerting much effort to communicate even through other modes like non-verbal communication. They would often be pictured out as repeating words and phrases and playing with themselves alone than spontaneously opening up to others. It is also often expected that these children would have severe mannerisms that are already a hindrance to their functioning.  

Doctors have often been diagnosing autism to male children than female ones, as females would often just be diagnosed as severely retarded rather than autistic. It is not explained though what the real percentage of the population would this disorder be more manifested in, the rich or the poor.

Physiologically, a child exhibiting these symptoms of autism would appear very normal unless they have exhibited mental retardation which is more likely a 70% possibility. Other biological symptoms and factors in diagnosing autism would fall under underperforming of tasks especially if it would call for empathic communication as these children lack the interaction they are supposed to present.  

It also helps to present tests to children before diagnosing autism. More often than not they will manifest grand mal seizures at some time and somehow would present ventricular enlargement on CT scans. There some abnormalities in test results especially in the brain and heart functions. This is mostly the case if there are histories in the family or any traumas that were incurred during the pregnancy of the mother of the child with autism.
